First Few Days on Nutrisystem

4:54 pm in Weight by getfitwife

Well, it has been almost 1 week since I started Nutrisystem. So far I am doing really well and find it easy to stick to the plan. The foods I have tasted so far have all been delicious. I am also down 3.5 pounds! I will weigh-in again on Wednesday and report on my total weight loss for the week. I will say that I find myself being more hungry on days that I am at home and not running around at work (I am a teacher). This past weekend I was out and about with my hubby running errands and was very tempted to eat out. I didn’t, of course. I just let my stomach grumble until I got home. So the lesson learned was to plan ahead and take the approved food with me. I have found the key to success on this plan is to:

  • follow the plan exactly
  • drinks lot of water
  • take a multi-vitamin
  • eat often by loading up on unlimited amounts of approved veggies (this may sound funny to have approved veggies, but some are high on the glycemic index so you can not eat unlimited amounts of them)

I am fat

Yep, I said it. I am finally admitting it to myself and to the world. I am also ready to change and am taking my first steps toward weight loss. I just received my “tools” yesterday and am ready to go. My tools are the food and support that makes up Nutrisystem. I know what your probably thinking, “She joined one of those trendy weight loss companies to help her lose weight. She will spend a ton of money on food and lose maybe 20 pounds, but then she will get tired of eating their food, go back to her old ways, and gain every last pound back”. Yeah, there is a high likelihood that that will happen, but I am going to use every fiber of my being to not let it. That’s because this is it for me. I have tried everything else for an awful long time now and nothing has worked. I am ready to start living and enjoying life instead of wasting it away. You can read about my progress on this blog. I hope you will join me for my journey…

Starting the Master Cleanse

12:27 pm in Cleanse by Brad Schweitzer

Today is the day I begin the Master Cleanse. I just spent about an hour hand squeezing 6 lbs of lemons producing about 4 cups of fresh squeezed lemon juice. At a minimum, I know I burnt a few calories with that workout. Next time, I will find a juicer. I mixed the lemon juice with equal parts pure maple syrup. I did not mix in the cayenne pepper yet as I plan to mix that with the final mixture.

To create the final mixture I put in 8 oz of my mixture, 1/8th teaspoon of cayenne pepper and filled my 1-liter Nalgene bottle the rest of the way with water. I think this stuff tastes like fancy lemonade. I really like it. I will add a bit more cayenne pepper in the next batch since I like stuff spicy.

I plan to drink the liquid during the day and use the sea salt solution as a Salt Water Flush (SWF) each night.

Starting weight: 182.5 with 14.5% body fat.

Here are a few good places to learn more about the master cleanse

I’ll provide regular updates of my progress and general feelings as I go through this cleanse.

Shooting for the Stars

8:45 pm in Motivation by Brad Schweitzer

When setting goals it is important to set good goals. If your goals stink, you can bet your results will not be that great. We all know goals should be measurable, realistic, achievable, etc.

Do goals really need to be achievable and realistic? The safe answer is, “It depends.” I firmly believe they should be achievable, but how do you really know what you can achieve. You have an idea of what you have achieved. You know what you might want to settle for. So often, people will set goals that limit their potential.

A better approach might include some simple goals and a few extraordinary goals. Set some simple goals that you feel are achievable and realistic. These are like small milestones to make sure you are progressing. However, if you want to surprise yourself, you really need to set some stretch goals too. Set a few goals that sound outrageous. Strive for those impossible goals. Meet all your simple goals and adjust them as necessary. Keep an eye on your impossible goals and take steps that work toward them. Even if you hit way below the impossible, you may still hit way above where you thought you could end up.

Shoot for the stars.  Even if you fail, you still have a good chance at landing in a place that is out of this world!

One Rule Diet

11:18 am in Diet, Nutrition by Brad Schweitzer

Here is an interesting article from Training Peaks. If you are planning to start a diet, and already feel overwhelmed, this is a great idea. Follow one rule on your diet and you will succeed. What’s the one rule? Eat seven to nine servings of fruit and veggies every day.

I think this is a great plan. If you actually eat all those fruit and veggies you will find yourself snacking all day. Eating the fruit and veggies will keep you occupied and satisfied so you don’t end up with the bad snacks – like cheesy puffs.

I’ve tried this for the past three days and I feel satisfied all day. I don’t come home and eat the door off the fridge! If you are trying this or have tried something similar share your story. I am on my way and I’ll let you know how it progresses

Making a Diet Plan

10:43 am in Diet, Motivation by Brad Schweitzer

The successful key to almost everything is starting with a plan. The trick is not necessarily sticking with your diet plan to every little detail, but rather knowing that you have a solid healthy lifestyle plan and that you are working toward it. Also, you should realize that the plan will evolve and adjust over time.

Think about it for a minute….If you have a plan and you know what your plan is, you will follow it most of the time. There will be those few time where you want to cheat and completely forget about the plan. They will come no matter how foolproof your plan is. When you find that you failed with your fitness plan take a couple minutes to try and learn why you cheated. If your cheating happened because you went out with your friends to an all-you-can-eat buffet then that is a red flag. If you see that you ate some particular meal and felt unsatisfied then make sure you watch for that meal the next time. If the cheating seems to be a pattern in plan look for ways to break the pattern.

A plan should be adjusted as your progress through it. When you make an adjustment it should be a result of just a couple things. The adjustment may be necessary to fix that cheating pattern, adjust your intake based on a new target weight, change your foods to meet new nutritional targets, or many other reasons.

The New Year is nearly here. After the large Christmas dinner and days of leftovers it is time to start getting back into shape. Or maybe this is the year you are really going to stick with a plan. I know that I am going to get back on the bike and have a great time doing it. I’ll add a little running and find a good place to swim. Then when the weather is nice I will give a triathlon a try.

I’ve spent a few years competing in various bike races but quickly found that I was not having fun. This time I am going to have fun and do some light competition. The main goal is to get back into shape and be a strong rider that enjoys the time on the roads and trails.

I hope you find the fun activity that gets you going. I pray that you find the right diet plan that you can stick to and move towards your ideal weight. Get healthy this year, join our community and start to blog about where you are going and how you are getting there. We’ll cheer you on and try to keep you from cheating.
